Coronation Window Display Almshouse Vintage

Avoidance… Anxiety & Procrastination! 😬 ✍️

I have been trying to write this email for about 10 days! I don’t find writing very easy! However, l wanted to start a regular email newsletter to our growing customer base! It hasn’t been easy since I started Almshouse Vintage in 2020. I didn’t see a pandemic for two years coming! I have had to learn fast how to use Shopify and Mailchimp! Check out my handy work on our website!

Last year l found out that l am mildly dyslexic and suspect l have adhd and am waiting for a diagnosis! My daughter has both dyslexia and adhd. Therefore some days concentration can be difficult as well as being overwhelmed with what happens in the business on a daily basis!

Now the Coronation is over, what else do we have to look forward to this summer? I have included a picture of our Almshouse Vintage Coronation window display, for those of you that haven’t seen it. I was really pleased with how the window turned out. Created for me by my friend, Jilly Hawksfield. Jilly ran the Christmas pop up shop at the Almshouse Arcade and she is a very creative lady. Please check Jilly’s website out. https://gooneybirdphotography.co.uk/

What is vintage?

Over the last week, I have been researching the definition of what is vintage? I wanted to understand this myself…

Vintage design refers to an item of another era that holds important recognisable value. This style can be applied to interior design, decor, clothing and other areas. Vintage Design is popular and vintage items have risen in price. Outlets of Vintage Design have shifted from thrift store to shabby chic stores.

Antique is perceived to be collectible items or furniture that are at least 100 years old, in terms of clothing, it has to be at least 20 years old to be classed as vintage. Clothing may have a label from a designer or fashion house and it may include a date which helps to age clothing but many do not so you have to guess or use the internet as a reference.

 Is vintage clothing, secondhand?

For an item to be considered vintage by the commonly accepted industry standard It needs to be at least 20 years old but does not have to be previously owned by someone else. However, because of their age, many vintage pieces are secondhand.

This is the excitement for vintage collectors and sellers in discovering vintage items that have never been worn or are in great condition. Many of my customer say I found this in my mother’s wardrobe and I didn’t know my mother had all these clothes and some have never been worn!

How do you build a Vintage wardrobe?

I have now started to look at my own wardrobe differently, I’ve never been a fan of the High Street particularly as now I am slightly larger size. The extra bank holidays this month have given me the opportunity to catch up on housework and declutter! Including my wardrobe! 🧥👗👚👖

Do you already attend lots of Vintage Events or would like to go to your first event?

Perhaps you have some sentimental items handed down to you and you don’t know what to do with them or would like to sell them? Please contact me if l can help you to value items or you would like to sell any clothing. See above.

TBC…

Best wishes,
